Mujhe Is Jahanum sai Nikalo by Maria Akram

A voice is echoing across the surface of the Earth these days, a voice that America had stiffled under the banner of being the savior of humanity, especially women’s rights, for the past two decades. It is the voice of an innocent woman whose only crime were her noble aspirations for a better nation. This suppressed voice belongs to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

WHO IS DR AAFIA SIDDIQUI?

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani neuroscientist who graduated from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and furthered her studies at Brandeis University. Currently, she is serving an 86-year sentence in FMC Carswell, USA, a painful facade that began in 2003 and culminated in her imprisonment being officially announced in 2010.

THE TRAGIC STORY UNFOLDS

The tragic story began when Dr. Aafia visited Pakistan temporarily in 2003, accompanied by her three children. She had a noble mission—to present her unique and revolutionary ideology for the educational system in Pakistan. Little did she know that her dream would turn into an unimaginable nightmare. Suddenly, she vanished, leaving her loved ones in agony for approximately five years with no leads or advancements. Who was behind her disappearance? There were many answers to that haunting question.

SEEKING ANSWERS: YVONNE RIDLEY’S INVOLVEMENT

Amidst the chaos, Yvonne Ridley, a British journalist who had once been held captive by Afghan Talibans, became a ray of hope in Dr. Aafia’s case. Ridley, inspired by the hospitality she experienced during her captivity and her subsequent acceptance of Islam, made her second visit to Afghanistan to write the book “The Enemy’s Combatant” in Bagram Jail. There, she heard the screams of Prisoner 650, a female whose suffering never allowed other prisoners to sleep. Ridley became suspicious and, in 2008, along with the chairman of PTI, Imran Khan, raised valid questions and voiced her suspicions. Finally, it was revealed that Prisoner 650 was none other than Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

DR AAFIA’S ORDEAL AND IMPRISONMENT

Dr. Aafia was subjected to extreme torture, leading to a loss of her mental balance during her imprisonment. Although she was released from one prison, she continues to suffer in the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, known as the “House of Horror” due to its suffocating conditions. She was sentenced to 86 years in prison on several charges. Despite 20 years passing since her ordeal began, her sister, Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, continues to fight for justice for her sister.

FIGHT FOR JUSTICE

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case remains a tragic symbol of injustice, highlighting the importance of fighting for the rights and freedoms of all individuals, regardless of their nationality or background. While her sister, Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, and many others have been tirelessly advocating for her release and justice, the resolution of her case remains uncertain. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s silenced voice serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and compassion in a world where human rights should prevail. Her silenced voice serves as a reminder that we must strive for a world where justice, compassion, and respect for human rights prevail. Our silence has only perpetuated misery, and now we must make a conscious choice: either remain silent and support the oppressors, or raise our voices and actively fight against the oppression she is enduring.
